How we reduce impact

At Weakland’s Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint for our grandchildren and yours. “Going green” isn’t just a slogan for us—it’s a practical, everyday mindset that shows up in the way we work, the equipment we recommend, and the simple choices we make as a company.

The best part? Many green choices are also the choices that help you spend less month after month. A greener workplace (and a greener home) can mean a lighter ecological footprint, a healthier and more productive place to work, and good news for the bottom line.

We’ve been servicing the Reno–Sparks and surrounding areas since 1991, and we specialize in residential and light commercial heating, air conditioning, and ventilation—everything from building from the ground up and retrofits to repairs, service, and preventative maintenance of all HVAC equipment. What we do to be green

We believe doing the right thing should be built into the way a company operates. Here are some of the specific ways we work to keep our footprint as light as possible—without losing sight of what matters to you: reliable comfort and responsible costs.

We help you choose energy-efficient HVAC technology. We stay knowledgeable in the latest technology that focuses on energy-efficiency so we can help you pick a “green” heating or AC system to install. There’s an added bonus here: “Uncle Sam” may reward you with tax credits and Energy Star rebates (and that’s in addition to any coupons or promotions we may already be offering).

We tune for efficiency and safety. When we perform annual heating tune-ups and AC Clean & Checks, we use the latest technology to help ensure your systems are running as efficiently and safely as possible. We take extra steps to help the planet as well as your wallet. If you’re spending less on fuel because you have an efficient system, it can feel like getting free fuel.

We install and promote more environmentally responsible refrigerant options. We install and promote AC systems that use R410A refrigerant instead of R22 Freon, which damages the environment. R22 Freon production was being phased out world-wide by 2010 because of its harmful impact on the environment.

We fix leaks—because “topping off” isn’t a solution. We don’t just add more refrigerant. We find the leak and repair it before the refrigerant can do any more damage to the ozone.

We recycle what we can, instead of burying it. We recycle old mercury thermostats instead of putting them in the landfill. We also recycle all of our ink cartridges.

We make smarter day-to-day choices at the shop and on the road. We recycle used cell phones and batteries, use rechargeable batteries in most of our equipment when we can, and vigilantly maintain our service trucks to ensure maximum gas efficiency—keeping current with oil changes and engine tune-ups.

We reduce paper waste whenever possible. We’re going paperless—storing documents digitally to eliminate unnecessary paper, ink, and trash. When paper use can’t be avoided, we use recycled paper and envelopes that have been processed and colored using eco-friendly methods.

We keep cleaning and supplies greener, too. We use biodegradable soaps and biodegradable cleaners, along with recycled paper or cloth towels in the bathroom and kitchen. We buy in bulk when we can to reduce shipping and packaging waste, and we reuse shipping boxes.

We keep the little things from adding up. We turn off computers, lights, calculators, and printers at night. We have bills delivered paperless. We turn off lights when leaving a room. We wash rags in cold water whenever possible (a big chunk of laundry energy goes into heating the water).

We plan smarter routes. When we schedule service calls, we try to make appointments on the same side of town so we don’t waste gas sending our team all over.
